Watauga Arts Council to Boone: "We're Already Gone" PDF Print

The Watauga County Arts Council has responded to the Town of Boone’s open letter from last week, a letter that set today as a deadline to reconsider ending their relationship with the town.  The response from the Arts Council was definitive—they’ve already moved out of the Jones House Community Center.  They told the town of their plans in a letter they should have received yesterday. The town council, in an open work session two months back, voted to end its contract with the WCAC and establish a new Cultural Resources Board and hire a new position to head that.  It appeared that the town, through the offer to continue the Arts Council contract to manage the Jones House through September, wanted more time to create that board and hire that position.  With the Arts Council’s response—moving its operations to new facilities—the town now will have to follow through on their own to put on the concert on the lawn series at the Jones House and do other already scheduled events.  The Boone Town Council meets this evening, and we’ll hopefully hear a response and about a new plan of action.
