For the second time in a month Appalachian State University Police are looking for the persons responsible for a possible arson.Police say someone intentionally set fire to an Appalcart Shelter on College Drive in Boone last night just after 11 p.m. Detective Todd Corley says the incident is similar to a fire last month where an Appalcart Shelter was set ablaze on Stadium Drive. Corley says the arsonist likely used a cigarette lighter and put it against the Plexi-glass of the shelter.
"I don't know if you've ever put heat to a plastic straw, but it's similar to that. It gets hot, gets molten, then it becomes a sel-ignition source," Corley said.
Police are still interviewing possible witnesses, but no suspects have emerged in either shelter blaze.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 828-262-4555.
