Watauga BOE Depends on Provisional Ballots PDF Print
Written by Steve Frank

Watauga voters started out the evening giving the amendment 1 issue a strong setback in early returns, but ended up with a very close defeat for the amendment of under 2%, but state-wide, it passed handily.  In the Board of Education race, with no incumbents filing to return, Brenda Reece lead the way, followed by Barbara Kinsey then Ron Henries, but with Jay Fenwick and Deborah Greene within a percent—and a race that may be determined by the canvass.
Dan Soucek turned back the challenge of George Robinson in the 45th Senate race, even besting Robinson in his home county of Caldwell. In the 5th US house race, Democrat Elisabeth Motsinger will face incumbent Republican Virginia Foxx in the fall. What will be interesting to watch is the support for Motsinger in her home county of Forsyth, the largest in the 5th congressional district against Foxx support in the smaller counties to the west.
