Bowles visit prompts more UNC Hickory talk PDF Print
Wednesday, 03 October 2007 22:40

A visit from University of North Carolina System President Erskine Bowles this week had more Hickory residents talking about a possible UNC Hickory.

Local citizens appealed to Bowles at his Listening Tour in Hickory yesterday. Even though a UNC-Hickory or satellite campus of Appalachian State University, even if approved would be years off, it’s something that Catawba citizens seem to want. They aren’t the only ones- North Carolina Senator Austin Allran pointed out that Hickory is the largest metropolis in the state without a four-year public university. In fact, the idea went unopposed at yesterday’s meeting. Bowles said it hasn’t been explored, but all options are still on the table.
