WCAC Contract with Boone Ends 9/30/12 PDF Print

The Watauga County Arts Council’s contract for use and management of the Jones House Community Center was extended at last night’s Boone Town Council, ending now at the end of September instead of the first of September.  Ending the relationship was put forward at the council’s day-long work session several weeks back, but talks after that vote left some room for the town and Arts Council to continue, but with the 4-1 vote last night, that appears unlikely. At the meeting earlier this month, the council voted to create a new Cultural Resources Board to recommend policies for the town's cultural facilities, including the Jones House as part of a larger plan for managing arts and cultural aspects of Boone life.  The current extension offer to the Arts Council is contingent on continuation of arts programs and music on the lawn for the summer.
