A suspect wanted by several area counties and on Federal probation crashed through a window fleeing Caldwell Deputies Sunday night, and was captured after being hit with a taser in a foot chase. Jason Alan Laws, 32, was wanted by Caldwell, Burke and with a Federal Probation Violation, and was known to have been in Avery County over the Easter weekend.  With information on the location of the suspect, deputies went to a residence on Oaklawn Court in Gamewell, but the resident denied that Laws was at the residence.  With other officers in position in the back yard of the residence, Laws ran upstairs, jumped out of a window, breaking the glass and cutting his nose and wrist, then ran from the officers who caught up with him. After deploying a taser he was handcuffed and taken into custody.  Laws was charged with outstanding warrants from Caldwell and Burke Counties, with a federal hold pending for a federal probation violation.
Laws is charged in Caldwell Counties with Larceny of Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Vehicle and Breaking and Entering to Auto—all felonies—as well as Resisting Public Officers and Injury to Personal Property, misdemeanors.  Caldwell bonds totaled $40,000.
Laws has also been served with warrants from Burke County for two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest.  He also has a separate charge of Larceny of a Motor Vehicle.  He has secured bonds in these cases totaling $110,000.00.
