Sugar Mountain makes Shoplifting Arrests PDF Print
Friday, 28 September 2007 03:19

A series of break-ins at Invershield has come to an end- thanks to Sugar Mountain Police Department.

The department has received several shoplifting complaints over the past few weeks from the Exxon station. According to Chief David Henson, Sugar Mountain has been stepping up its patrol- with obvious results.

Wednesday, Sugar Mountain Police department caught three suspects in the act: 33-year-old Benjamin Cole of Elizabethton, 26-year-old Valerie Hopkins of Bluff City and 25-year-old Reva Owens of Bristol. All three face larceny charges, as well as resisting charges for refusing to give officers identification. After putting the suspects’ names into the system, officers discovered Cole had a fugitive warrant from Carter County for a parole violation. Video footage from the service station indicates there are other suspects- and Henson says they will get caught. Items stolen include honey, phone chargers, cigarettes, sodas and a variety of other low-cost merchandise.
