Bond of $10,000 was set in the case of the man who directed the Ashe County High School band for 18 months—until last month—now accused of sex charges. Ryan Claar, 32, who lists a Sugar Grove, Watauga County address, appeared in Ashe County Court yesterday, facing charges that he had a sexual relationship with a student at the school. Claar was arrested Monday and charged with three felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a student. Ashe County Sheriff James Williams said the investigation began in early February, after allegations surfaced from a student younger than 18. The school system suspended Claar on Feb. 6, and he resigned a short time later.
