UPDATE: Many Local Candidates--One Incumbent PDF Print

Filing is over, and only one incumbent filed to return to office in Watauga County.  No one filed on the final day at the Watauga County Board of Elections after three candidates filed Tuesday.  Neither incumbent Democrats, Tim Futrell nor Jim Deal, filed to return to their seats.

Tuesday, Republican Tommy Adams filed for District 3 on the Board of Commissioners, matching candidates with open slots for commission. Adams will face Democrat Billy Kennedy; in District 2, incumbent Republican Vince Gable—the lone incumbent to file locally in any race—will face Democrat John Welch, and in District 1, Democrat Virginia Roseman will face Republican Tim Wilson. For the Board of Education, none of the three incumbents filed, with Brandon Petrea and Brenda Reese filing Tuesday, making now seven candidates filing for three seats, joining Jay Fenwick, Deborah Greene, Ron Henries, Barbara Kinsey and Fred Oliver. The two candidates with the most votes in that race earn four-year terms, while the candidate with the third most votes earns a two-year term.
