Prescription to Pick Up? Take Photo ID PDF Print

Need your meds? There are changes tomorrow in what will be required for obtaining prescriptions for Schedule 2 and 3 drugs, including most pain prescriptions, narcotics, and drugs for Attention Deficit Disorder and ADHD. Pharmacist Corey Furman of Boone Drugs said yesterday that the person picking up these drugs, beginning March 1st, will be required to show a photo ID—and only certain photo IDs—as four types are accepted, due to the state law enacted by the General Assembly last year.  A Drivers License, Military ID, passport, or ID issued by the NC DMV for identification will be accepted, but Furman noted that no school IDs are on the list, and folks from Tennessee could not use a state ID similar to that issued in NC from there—but could use a valid Tennessee Drivers License with photo. Again, the new law is not for all pharmaceuticals, but a broad range of pain and other class 2 and 3 drugs.  The main concern for most tomorrow is folks making the trip without the ID and not being able to get meds, so be sure to take a photo ID or call to see if your prescription required the identification to be picked up.
