Greenway Road Closed in Friday Bomb Threat PDF Print

What was described as a ‘vague’ bomb threat against a worker at Watauga Opportunities caused the evacuation of the Boone facility and the closing of Greenway Road for a time Friday afternoon.  A bomb disposal team from Wilkes was called in to search the area after the mid-afternoon evacuation. Boone Police and fire closed off Greenway Road and recommended that businesses across the road be cleared on a voluntary basis, but after no device was found, the all-clear was given around 5, and the road reopened.  Boone Police are investigating the source and nature of the threat, but no information about a suspect was released, nor whether any arrests were pending.
