Cultural Museum Preview PDF Print
Tuesday, 18 September 2007 19:00

The Appalachian Cultural Museum, homeless since March 2006, will soon have a temporary place to crash according to curator Chuck Watkins.

A museum annex is opening at the Wilcox Emporium in downtown Boone on Thursday.

It will be a combination of what the museum once was, as well as a preview of what's to come, he says.

A display on the history of ginseng is a new addition. Watkins is calling the Emporium exhibit a “preview gallery.”

Thursday’s opening will double as a fundraiser for the future museum, which will be part of a cultural complex to incorporate Horn in the West, Hickory Ridge Homestead and the Daniel Boone Native Gardens. From 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, a wine tasting is being offered by Phil and Katie Doster of Fine Discount Wines. Cha Da Thai Restaurant is catering hors d’oeuvres, and live music will also be part of the festivities. Tickets to the opening cost $25. For more information, call 828-262-1221.
