Authorities have identified the man who died in a North Wilkesboro house fire early yesterday morning. Firefighters from North Wilkesboro, Cricket, Broadway and Mulberry-Fairplains sent over two dozen firefighters to the scene of the 4:30 am call at the three-story house at 1107 E Street. A neighbor saw flames coming from the house and called 9-1-1, but fire was roaring from the three-story house when first units arrived. Fire investigators said there was an open fireplace in use near a Christmas tree but the exact cause was still to be determined. Authorities said this morning that Mark Settle, listed as the property owner, died in the fire and that another man who was there was taken to Wilkes Regional Medical Center, but was not badly hurt.  The house, built in 1907, and damage was listed at over $350,000.
