Avery Woman Charged in Watauga Drug Counts PDF Print

Watauga County Sheriff’s Deputies, with the assistance of Avery County Deputies, located and arrested an Avery County woman, charging her with a number of drug counts. Amber Townsend, 27, of Newland, was charged with 8 counts of Trafficking Opium in the form of prescription pain pills and 4 counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretense—the prescription pain pills. These charges stem from an investigation into Prescription Diversion, which is the sheriff’s department release said is the illegal possession and use of legal prescription narcotics. Amber Townsend reportedly received numerous prescriptions from various Doctors and filled them at different pharmacies throughout Watauga and Avery counties. Townsend is currently incarcerated at the Watauga County Detention Center under a $260,000.00 bond and has a court date of February 2nd.
