A Christmas Day wreck injured a West Jefferson woman who was pinned in her overturned vehicle.  The State Patrol said that Janet Smith, 55, was traveling US 221 at about 2:20 yesterday afternoon when she dozed off behind the wheel.  Smith’s 99 ford Taurus ran off US 221 to her right in front of Westwood Elementary, and she woke in time to pull her car back onto the road—but too strongly, so that it crossed over the highway and ran off to the left and overturned.  A number of Ashe emergency services responded to the scene and helped free Janet Smith from the wreckage, and she was rushed to Ashe Memorial for treatment of what the patrol called non life-threatening injuries.  She was cited by the investigating trooper with Reckless driving in the crash.
