Utilities Suffer Wednesday Outages PDF Print

Wednesday was a strange day for local utility crews who had to deal with water leaks and power outages.  Crews took much of the day to repair a main line that burst on Meadowview Drive. With most of the apartments in the area empty of students, not many customers were effected, but the 8-inch PVC pipe burst at about 8:15 a.m., causing a massive leak. Then as dusk hit, afternoon drive traffic was hit with lights out at a number of busy intersections as New river Light & Power crews chased down an outage that darkened homes and businesses mostly on the north side of King Street.  After following reports of sparking lines in several locations, crews found that the problem was at the Perkinsville substation, and with that, power was restored in short order.
