An apartment complex was ordered evacuated last night as the Watauga SWAT team was called in following shots being fired, then a weapon was pointed at investigating officers causing a brief stand-off. The incident began around 8pm at Pebble Creek Apartments on NC 105 South,
a man reporting that a shot had been fired inside an apartment near his head. The man did not want to press charges when deputies arrived, but Sheriff Len Hagaman said when deputies went to check on the suspect, they found a woman with the suspect, and he reportedly pointed a weapon at the officers, causing them to retreat to the parking lot and set a perimeter around their cars. They called in the Special Response Team team while Boone Police arrived to help with the process of evacuating the apartments near-by. The apartment went dark and it appeared that the man, along with the woman with him, had barricaded themselves inside, but while other back-up was en route, the officers ordered the pair out, and they stumbled out, obviously intoxicated, according to the sheriff, and the woman had to be subdued as she tried to re-enter the apartment where a gun was near. Eddie Stansbury, was charged with two counts of assault on an officer by pointing a firearm and set a $75,000 secured bond. The woman, Ruth Ann Stansbury, was charged with Resisting Public Officer and set a $3,500 secured bond.
