The following document was released by Avery County Sheriff Kevin Frye this evening. It lists citizens arrested in his Friday "round up." It has been presented exactly as received by Aisling Broadcasting.
The Avery Sheriff/Municipal Drug Task Force has arrested 14 people (now 15, see update at bottom of page) out of the 22 people they have warrants or indictments on.
The arrests began on Friday morning,09/07/07 at 05:00am. Arrested were :
Raymond Edward Pratt(25) for Sell and Delivery of Schedule IV and Possession with intent to sale and deliver Schedule IV.
Lucia Hicks(38) Traffic Opium and Possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule III, Possession with Intent to sell and deliver schedule IV, and Maintaining a Dwelling where controlled substances.
Jeremy Burleson (27) True Bill for being a Habitual Felon
Johnny Buchanan(57) True Bill for Possession of Schedule IV, sell and delivery of schedule IV
Jason Bagnoli(25) 2counts of sell and delivery schedule II and possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule II
Corey Fisher(27) Attempt to possess cocaine.
James Robert Cook(40) possession with intent sell and deliver schedule III
Martha Stamey(21) Sell and deliver schedule VI, simple possession of schedule III, simple possession schedule II, felony possession of schedule VI, and possession of drug paraphernalia
Eric Honeycutt(33) Possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule III
Jessica Wyatt(25) sell and deliver schedule VI, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia
Dana Wilson Ollis(28) sell and deliver schedule IV and II, possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule IV and II
Chad Clark(27) attempt to possess cocaine
There are several more people to be arrested that have not been located at this time and at least 2 other persons to be arrested that are currently incarcerated in other jails in NC.
The town police departments of Banner Elk, Beech Mountain, Elk Park, Newland and Sugar Mountain wish to thank their town boards and managers, and the Avery County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the Avery County Board of Commissioners and the county manager, for their unyielding support in our efforts to decrease the drug problem in the towns and in the county of Avery. The Police Chiefs of each town and the Sheriff would also like to thank the officers, deputies, detectives and jail personnel for their professionalism and dedication in making this drug operation a success.
Chief Bill Burleson stated “The cooperation between all the departments is fantastic, and it would be extremely difficult if not impossible to do some of the anti-drug efforts we are participating in without that cooperation.” Sheriff Kevin Frye stated “ this is not the end, but only the beginning, we know some real problems out there still exists and we are making efforts daily to find those people and bring them to justice. I see this as a good starting point.”
Over the past six month period counting the drug arrests today the Avery Sheriff/Municipal Drug Task Force has accomplished some pretty impressive numbers.
Purchased over $25,000.00 in street value of illegal controlled substances.
Arrested 42 Drug Offenders on 92 felony charges
Bought over three pounds of marijuana
843 prescription medications purchased
1 ounce of psilocybin mushrooms
3 ounces of cocaine
1 ounce of crack cocaine
Seized 6 vehicles
UPDATE: Monday, September 10- Sheriff Kevin Frye tells us one more name may be added to the list, Simon Keith Rose. Details are still emerging, but Frye says Rose brings the total of those arrested to 15.
