Town and ASU meeting ‘long overdue’ PDF Print
Wednesday, 05 September 2007 06:30

The Town of Boone met with Appalachian State University officials last night to work out some issues with the UDO.

Council member Lynne Mason said the talk was “long overdue.”

"ASU and the Town agreed to engage in a joint process to develop a joint master plan to address growth and development," she said.

The changes reflected what Mason called, “common sense,” mostly with wording.

The meeting did not directly address the proposed location of the Education building- but it did reaffirm Mason’s belief that the Town and the University can work together.

"The town is facing a lot of growth pressures, as is ASU, and what one entity does impacts the other... and we've just got to learn to work together and to plan together," she said.

A subcommittee was formed to work with the Town’s Planning Committee on future issues that affect both the town and university, such as traffic and parking. As to the new Education Building, the Town still has not received an official proposal.

"We are very committed, though to helping ASU find a site that both ASU and the town can be proud of," she said.
