Mountaineers make Sports Illustrated PDF Print
Tuesday, 04 September 2007 20:00

Sports Illustrated hits news stands today- and the Appalachian State University Mountaineers are on the cover.

Writer Austin Murphy joins other sports experts in calling the Saturday game “one of the biggest upsets in the history of the game [of football].”

The 34-32 victory over 5th-ranked Michigan is all some Boone residents can talk about. According to Murphy, it’s worth the hype. No I-AA team has ever beaten a ranked I-A squad, “let alone a Top 5 team and the winningest program in the history of the game,” he writes. “Someone put wasabi in Michigan’s cupcake,” his article says.

According to Murphy- there’s only one university as excited about the Mountaineers as ASU, and that’s Ohio State. Longtime Michigan rival, Ohio State is reveling in the loss, Murphy says.
