While the game may be over, Boone’s celebration is just beginning.

Saturday, the Appalachian State University Mountaineers beat the Michigan Wolverines, 34-32- making what some sportscasters are calling the biggest upset in college football. Fans like Alan Brantley call it something else- "History!"

He, like many other sportsfans, was at a Mountaineer party, watching the game with friends. An App-grad, he wasn’t the only one elated to see the victory.

Post game, hundreds of fans hit the streets and, even though it was an away game, they uprooted the goal post and carried down Blowing Rock Road. Mountaineer fans flocked once again Saturday night- awaiting the arrival of the victorious Appalachian State University football team. Buses started to arrive just after eleven- and that’s when the real party started.

Fans waving signs and wearing tee-shirts bearing “3-peat,” and “Michigan who?” came together to congratulate the team for its 34-32 upset of Michigan. The 5th-ranked team was defeated in what many are calling the greatest upset in the history of college football.

And today? The celebrating is still not over. Just ask Marla Presnell of Mega Screen Printing on King Street. As of yesterday afternoon, she’d already sold over 300 shirts saying “Michigan who?” Employees started making them right after the game and the store stayed open late to sell to fans.  In fact- they’re already sold out of one color. Presnell and her employees are very proud, she says. They’re not the only ones. Signs and flags across Boone say congratulations, ASU Mountaineers.
