Man Injured in Fall From Elk River Falls PDF Print

A man was injured jumping from into the waters from the top of Elk River Falls Sunday afternoon.  The man was found in the water and had to be rescued by those on the scene, reportedly including a physician and an ER nurse, according to rescuers from Avery departments. Avery Sheriff’s Deputies responding say that they found a group of young men jumping off the falls into the waters—even after the man was injured—and they say they put a stop to that activity as several Avery departments responded to carry out the man, who was face-down on the rocks after being rescued from the water.  The victim was taken to a waiting ambulance and to a landing zone set up near-by where they met WINGS Air Rescue for the trip to the Johnson City Medical Center.
