Tuesday shooting in Caldwell PDF Print
Wednesday, 29 August 2007 19:11

A shooting yesterday just before 6 p.m. in Caldwell County left one man in the hospital.

The unidentified male victim was shot in the left chest at a residence off Jim Poarch Place near Playmore Beach Road in the southwest part of the county. The victim was airlifted from Grace Hospital in Morganton to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was conscious when rescue workers arrived, and is expected to recover.

Caldwell County Sheriff’s deputies were investigating the circumstances until late in the evening- and were unable to release the names of those involved last night. A press release is expected this morning. No charges had been filed as of midnight- but deputies said that was subject to change.

Deputies responded to the residence earlier yesterday after complaints alleged shots had been fired. No one was taken into custody at that time, but two people were taken into custody last night after the shooting. One of the suspects spoke out about the incident, claiming he acted in self-defense when the victim assaulted his property with bottles. At least one weapon and a baseball bat were confiscated by authorities. A source within the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office called the situation “confusing.” Stay tuned and visit for an update on this breaking story.
