High Risk Vehicle Stop Nets Assault Suspect, Stolen Truck PDF Print

On Saturday August 6th, 2011 around 12:35 am, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office advised Watauga County Communications of a stolen white Ford F-150 displaying a Tennessee tag. Johnson County advised the driver was wanted in reference to Felony Domestic Assault and Felony Larceny of the white Ford F-150.

The driver was said to be 48 year old Cary Johnson of Trade, TN. Shortly after receiving this information, Deputy John Hollar observed a white Ford turning onto Meat Camp Road from Rich Mountain Road. Deputy Hollar turned around and caught up to the truck near Proffitt Road traveling toward NC 194 N. – the tag matched the “be on the lookout.” description. Deputy Hollar kept other responding units of the route of the direction and location of both he and the suspect’s movements. A textbook “high risk vehicle stop was executed and the suspect was taken into custody without incident. K-9 Deputy Aaron Billings and Sergeant Brandon Greer assisted with the vehicle stop at NC 194 N and Chestnut Grove Road. Mr. Johnson was taken into custody without further incident and charged with Felony Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felony Fugitive from Justice, and Driving while License Revoked. Johnson has a court date of September 2nd and is currently being held under a $13,000 secured bond at the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. The truck was returned to the owner and Johnson County has pending charges for Mr. Johnson.
