The Wilkes Sheriff’s Department has arrested a North Wilkesboro man in connection with targeting the elderly in repair work scams.  Bobby Randall Bowers, 32, of West Park Lane, was arrested at his residence, charged with five counts of exploiting elderly adults and other charges remains in the Wilkes County Jail with a $19,999 secured bond. Wilkes authorities said Bowers is charged with being paid to do guttering work or minor roof repairs at homes and then leaving after only doing small amounts of work.
Reports indicated that Bowers is charged with two counts each of felony breaking, entering and larceny and misdemeanor larceny in connection with the theft of power tools and other items stolen at some of the residences. He is also charged with one count of attempted larceny. Bowers is charged in connection with incidents involving six victims—mostly elderly—who live in the Cricket and Millers Creek areas. The incidents occurred within the last month. The WCSO said Bowers went to homes offering to do the work and asked to be paid in advance, and investigators believe there were additional victims who have been hesitant to come forward.
