The state patrol now says a Banner Elk man was killed—one of the six people injured in that three-vehicle crash on US 321 just south of Blowing Rock late yesterday afternoon. The SHP identified the man killed as the driver of a Jeep, struck head-on in the wreck that occurred during the hard rain that hit the area.  45-year old Shawn Derrick Presnell, of Hickory Nut Gap Road, Banner Elk, died at Watauga Medical Center. Trooper Troy Stutts said that the accident occurred at about 5:30 when a south-bound gray van crossed the center line and struck Presnell’s north-bound jeep head-on. The jeep then struck a blue van and ended up on top of the blue van.  Of the eight people in the three vehicles, six were transported by Caldwell or Watauga Medics—five to Caldwell Memorial, one to Watauga Medical Center while Patterson and Blowing Rock Fire/Rescue worked to remove the injured from the vehicles—the top cut off the Jeep to reach Presnell and his wife, Antonia.
