It was a great weekend for events—lots of tourists arriving in the High Country added to the local flavor for such as the Doc Watson sculpture festival Friday afternoon, the First of the Friday night concerts at Riverwalk in Newland, the 13th annual Blood, Sweat, & Gears rolling out of Valle Crucis, with hundreds of cyclists taking the challenge of the 100-mile or 50-mile rides.  The new fund-raiser, Step Up for Yellow Mountain appeared to be a great success at Lees-McRae, and cyclists hit Downtown Boone to cap off the weekend with the first Cyclo.via.  For the event, parts of River Street, Depot Street and Howard Street were blocked from late morning to mid-afternoon yesterday for some “human powered fun” in the event , sponsored by Boone Area Cyclists.
