Open burning has been banned indefinitely in North
Carolina due to a combination of heat and drought.
The ban applies to all previously issued burn permits. Statewide, more than 40 wildfires started on Monday. Officials say the state needs 15 to 25 inches of rain in the next few months to help ease drought conditions.
