Governor Bev Perdue decided last Friday in her visit to Hardin Park School to veto the state budget as presented to her by the legislature after hearing this comment from a Hardin Park teacher advising a student to go into teaching, but not in North Carolina. Pedue said teacher Alan Felker’s comments pushed her to decide on the veto of the budget after Felker’s advise to a student to teach, "You have to teach in a state that believes in you and a state that believes in children, and right now, I cannot honestly say that North Carolina does that." Republicans feel that they have the votes—including five democrats—to override the $19.7 billion budget, and that vote will come this week.
