$7 Million "Not Enough" for Old WHS PDF Print
Written by Steve Frank

Lincoln Harris put their proposal on the table before the Watauga County Commission for the Old Watauga High property this morning, a commercial proposal based on the amount of water that was initially available to them.  But the commission was not thrilled with the amount, according to commission chair Nathan Miller, "Its seven million on its face, if you look deeper in the plan, they want us to demolish the building--that's $1.2 million--then, of course you have to pay the realtor's fee...roughly, you knock off $1.5 million, so it comes in at five and a half (million dollars)." And Miller said that whatever price each commissioner has in mind as a fair price, this offer would probably not be acceptable to any of them, and he said that the county will get an appraisal, hopefully in the next 30 days, and make a counter proposal to Lincoln Harris, whose proposal did not include the additional water allocated by the town of Boone that might return mixed use to the plan.  And Miller said they have not yet specified just what retail is looking at the property.
