A Jeep slammed into a tree, then careened into the waters of the Watauga River just before 3 this afternoon.  The Shulls Mill Road wreck caused Foscoe Fire, Watauga Rescue, Watauga Medics and the state patrol to respond,

having to pull the victim from the car in the water. Mary Baker, of Fish Pond Lane, Banner Elk, hydroplaned and slid sideways into the tree, according to Trooper Jennings, her jeep then spinning off the tree and into the river.  Jennings said that the woman would apparently be OK, suffering no life threatening injuries.  Her dog was with her at the time, and also appeared to be OK. The accident was across from the outskirts of the Hound Ears golf course.
