Case closed on Desperado trailer fire PDF Print
Tuesday, 07 August 2007 20:08

Wilkes County Fire Marshal Nick Hamby has closed the investigation on a fire that claimed a crime scene last week on Desperado Road.

Deputies made allegations last week that resident Randal Whitley, a suspect in a shooting last month, said he was at the fire scene and that the case may be reopened as a possible arson. That bit of information is old news to Hamby.

“He told me he was there earlier that day but he wasn’t there when the fire occurred,” he said. In other words, Hamby has still seen nothing from the scene to indicate arson. At this point, it could be electrical problems. The single-wide trailer was completely destroyed in the fire- and got extra attention because it was the scene of an alleged incident between Whitley and Timothy Potts that ended in Potts hospitalized with a gunshot wound.

The case is closed, Hamby says, and has been since early last week- and the cause is undetermined.
