A Beech Mountain man, owner of Boone Crane, was critically injured—run over by a backing truck at the Maymead location on Highway 105 just out of Boone.

The accident occurred just before noon today as Kenneth Carroll Jr. of Butler Tennessee was backing an F-250 pickup on the lot and did not see Charles Ulery Jr..  Carroll backed over Ulery, causing the 37-year old Beech Mountain man critical injuries, and a call for Watauga Medics and Boone Fire.  Medics assessed the serious injuries and immediately requested an air ambulance to transport Ulery to a trama center, but with the high winds, they were unable to land locally, and he was rushed to Watauga Medical Center.  Baptist AirCare then told local dispatch that they could land at the Morganton-Lenoir Airport, and medics rushed him there.  Trooper Jennings said that he was in critical condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.  Charles Ulery was working on a new installation at the Maymead plant when the accident occurred.  No charges have been filed by the state patrol.
