The Watauga County Fire Marshal’s Office and NC Forest Service wants to remind residents that the high fire danger will continue for the next several days due to dry conditions and strong winds in the weather forecast.

Although a burning ban is not in effect, officials strongly recommend residents wait until the area receives sufficient rainfall before continuing outdoor burning. The proper ways to dispose of fireplace/stove ashes is in a metal bucket doused with water or dig a pit and cover with damp soil.  Parents should supervise children and not allow them to play with matches.  Also, if someone notices suspicious activity, please get a vehicle/person description with a direction of travel and report it to the proper authorities.
