Blowing Rock Fire & Rescue pulled off a dramatic rescue of a man, stranded in his vehicle, hung up in trees at the precipice of a rock cliff. The Sunday morning wreck was just above Highway 321 just south of Blowing Rock.(photos Blowing Rock Fire/Rescue)

The driver of the vehicle was driving down a snow covered secondary road above the highway and his vehicle went down the embankment and through the woods. The vehicle rolled it’s side and fortunately for the driver, rested itself on a tree instead of going over the cliff for a 70 foot drop to the highway. It took rescue personnel about an hour to stabilize the vehicle so the man could get out safely. The drive of the car was not injured but transported to Watauga Medical Center for observation.
