Democrats’ statement in response to Hugh Sturgill essay PDF Print
Monday, 30 July 2007 10:59

The following does not necessarily reflect the opinions of Aisling Broadcasting.

The statement appears exactly as it was received by Aisling Broadcasting, from Watauga County Democratic Party Chair Diane Tilson. It is a response on Hugh Sturgill’s essay regarding property rights.

Dear Fellow Bloggers!

We considered writing some long-winded, detailed, tit for tat response to the recent “news story” posted on this site by the Watauga County Republican Party against the Town’s Steep Slope Compromise. But we read your comments about the story and agree such a response would not be appropriate for this site nor appreciated by you. Instead, we offer the following:

The Republican Party makes it officially clear,

They oppose Steep Slope regs, whose demise they would cheer.

Bring on those McMansions on unstable slopes!

When they fall, we can haul them all back up with ropes.

Bring on more development like the one high above

That Wal-Mart store we have all come to love.

That way each mountain in our wonderful town

Can be covered and smothered before it tumbles down.

The Republicans complain a step toward public good

Doesn’t jingle their pockets the way money would.

What’s fair, smart, and right doesn’t matter one bit,

When their few special interests might take a small hit.

We’re honored to stand with folks here on these hills,

And we pledge to work hard to address any ills.

We believe talk is cheap, and we believe in what’s right.

You can count on us to be up to the fight.

The Watauga County Democratic Party
