It was a nice gesture, but ill advised, that lead to a Boone woman being hurt in a 5pm accident at the center entrance to Shops of Shadowline yesterday, as a car turned out of the mall into her path.

21-year-old Meredith Wingler was injured when the Mercury sedan of Scott Phan, 25, of Boone, turned left onto Blowing Rock Road from the mall into the path of the woman’s Honda Accord traveling toward downtown, according to Boone Police.
Wingler was taken by ambulance to Watauga Medical Center for treatment, but she was able to walk before being placed on a stretcher and into the ambulance. Phan, who was uninjured in the accident, was cited for failure to yield right-of-way.
He reported another driver stopped in the outer lane of Blowing Rock Road had waved him to go, and he did not see the Honda in the inner lane.
