Windmills still a possibility- just not right now PDF Print
Sunday, 29 July 2007 20:00

The dismissal of Northwest Wind Developers’ application to build a commercial wind farm in Ashe County does not necessarily mean windmills aren’t in Ashe’s future.

The dismissal only affected one particular application.

Economic Development Chair Pat Mitchell says County Commissioners’ efforts in tweaking Ashe’s wind ordinance may not be in vain. In the future, it is very possible that a business may want to pick up where Northwest Wind and Dr. Richard Calhoun left off.

The application was dismissed as incomplete last Thursday after it failed to list how tall the proposed turbines would be or their exact location. Northwest initially wanted to put up 25 to 28 wind turbines in the community of Creston. Since the application was dismissed without prejudice, the company could resubmit with the additional information, and the process could simply start over.
