New signs are being posted around the county promoting the passage of the quarter-cent sales tax referendum, trying to counter the posting of numerous signs by opposition to the measure.  On that issue, Watauga County Commissioners are holding a press conference this afternoon to share information about what they’re calling the ‘recreation referendum.’ The commissioners called for the sales tax boost to create an aquatic center, recreation center and park, but opposition is criticizing the single-issue referendum and its August timing as well as the cost of not selling the old High School property with a payment date looming next year.  The meeting is at 4:30 this afternoon at the commissioner’s meeting room.  Voting on the issue is underway, concluding with the final day of voting, August 31st.
