Traffic collisions are the number one cause of death for teens. That is prompting the Highway Patrol to conduct Operation Drive To Live this week.

The goal is to reduce the number of teen related accidents by enforcing traffic laws around schools while conducted traffic safety programs at High Schools. Area officers also worked hard this weekend to reduce drinking and driving. The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office and Boone Police conducted a traffic checkpoint Saturday as part of the statewide St. Patrick’s Day Booze It and Lose It campaign. The checkpoint was conducted on Bamboo road. Officers issued 47 citations ranging from child Safety seat violations to driving While License Revoked.
