A Wilkes woman has been charged with assault after a Monday incident left her boyfriend injured.
Deputies called to the home of Danielle Weyker and Jessie Cortner found Cortner with two large welts on his side and claw-like scratch marks. Deputies determined the scratches came from a belt, allegedly used by Weyker to strike Cortner. Weyker attempted to evade arrest by scratching a deputy with her fingernails. Weyker was eventually shocked into cooperation with a Taser. She has been charged with simple assault and resisting arrest, but other charges could follow.
