Boone Barefoot Runner Crossing State For WYN PDF Print

A Boone barefoot runner is hoping to begin a 760-mile trek from Manteo this morning—a journey that he estimates will take four weeks. 29-year old Matt Jenkins is hoping to raise $15,000 for the Western Youth Network after school program where he works. His plan is to run about 30 miles a day, storing his gear, which will be not much more than a pair of Crocs, a bar of soap, a lightweight tent, food and water, in a pack he'll carry on his back or a jogging stroller that he will push. Jenkins has no firm schedule for his trek, and no real agenda for barefoot running, just hopes to raise awareness of the impact of state cuts to programs for our youth.  If you would like to help, go to
