Lawsuit filed on Google incentives PDF Print

The millions of dollars in state incentives used to get Google Incorporated to build a facility in Lenoir are being challenged today.

A lawsuit was filed in Wake County by the North Carolina Institute for Constitutional Law.

The group alleges incentives were unconstitutional.

According to the group’s executive director, Dean Webster, the constitution says such incentives are meant only for a public purpose. Webster and his group allege that Google was given advantages by the state that other corporations did not receive. Webster alleges the state “played favorites.”

Caldwell County officials said earlier this week the corporation will provide much needed jobs to the area- and is already boosting the area’s economy.

We’ll have more information on this topic tomorrow.
