New information is available on a marijuana bust that happened late last week in Watauga County. Watauga County Sheriff’s Office released statements today that allege an Appalachian State University sophomore attempted to sell marijuana.

An undercover officer allegedly was able to buy marijuana and prescription medication. His investigation led to a search warrant. When deputies searched an apartment on Windy Drive, 5.6 pounds of marijuana, 81 Xanax pills, assorted paraphernalia and approximately $1,000 was found.

19-year-old Carey Hewat faces several drug-related charges, including possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and three counts of selling and delivering the drug.

The marijuana was found in five individually packed large bags. The search also revealed marijuana being manufactured in a bedroom of the residence.
