Boone Police Complete Successful Food Drive

In an attempt to ease the burden on many of our citizens during the holiday season, the Boone Police Department organized a food drive to help people in need in our area.  The food collected during this drive was donated to the Hunger & Health Coalition in Boone, NC for distribution. Creston Man Charged with Meth Manufacturing

Ashe Sheriff James Williams reports that the Ashe County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit discovered 3 different "One-Pot" Methamphetamine Labs at a Creston home, and has arrested an Ashe County man. Firefighter Fatally Injured in Foothills Crash

An Alexander County firefighter died yesterday afternoon in a crash near Taylorsville.  The State Patrol indentified William Shook as the man whyo died in the head-on crash five miles west of Taylorsville on highway 90. Travel Treachery Hits High Country

The blast of cold air and snow turned much of the High Country into an ice rink as temperatures dropped and snow fell.  Tynecastle Highway near Food Lion down into Banner Elk was turned into a parking lot with skidding, slipping vehicles, and at one point, a tractor trailer jack-knifed across the road. Escapee Caught By NC Corrections

The Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement found an escaped inmate from the Buncombe Correctional Center in his home county. Correctional staff discovered Anthony Riddle missing at about  9:00 last night. Riddle, 27, from McDowell County, serving two to four years for larceny and possession of a firearm Full Story

Man Injured, Airlifted In Overnight House Fire

The man burned and airlifted after a fire at a Newland home late Monday night is hospitalized today with third degree burns to his head and arms.  Other members of his family escaped the fire that destroyed their home as fire personnel from Newland, Linville, Crossnore, Elk Park and Frank fire departments Full Story

Four Charged After Robbery and Assault

Boone Police responded to a report of threats at 683 Howard Street last week, the January 15th incident leading to assault and robbery counts .  The police investigation found that a drug-related robbery had occurred, leading, that evening, to Justin Kevin Anderson, age 24, and Jason Conley Anderson, Full Story

Bracing for Blast of Winter Weather

We’re on the cusp of another round of winter weather, with a blast of cold air crossing the state west to east, and bringing us at least a day—maybe two—of snow. Teens Charged in Break-in Attempt, Damage

On the evening of January 15th at approximately 9:00 P.M. Teen Kidnapped, Assaulted; Three Charged

At just after dusk last Wednesday, the Avery Sheriff’s Office received a call from a woman reporting a bloodied male, barefoot, in her drive, asking her to call 911.  She kept the male away from her home while calling the Sheriff’s Department, the call received there at about 6:00 P.M. Counterfeit Cash Turning Up in Wilkes

Another round of counterfeit currency is spreading bogus bills around Wilkes County, according to Wilkesboro Police.  The latest discoveries were reported to police last Tuesday, as BB&T Bank reported eight bill found in deposits from Security Financial Services, cash taken as a payment the previous Friday.
