Elon Man Dies in Paving Accident in Wilkes

Against All Odds.....

The Ashe County High football team finally ended 12 years of frustration Friday night against Watauga. The Huskies (2-0), off to their best start since 2008, defeated WHS 16-13 at Jack Groce Stadium. Kendall Richardson's 37-yard field goal with 1:36 left to play proved to be the difference. The Huskies snapped a 12-game losing streak against the Pioneers (1-1), and they also won their first game in Boone since the series began in 1999. Full Story

Victim Identified in Fatal Crash on US 221

The NC State Patrol blamed high speed in a wreck that took a Marion man’s life Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 221 North of Marion. The crash occurred near Linville Falls Golf Club, with emergency crews dispatched around 3 p.m. for a single-car wreck. The driver was pronounced dead at Full Story

 
Crime Spree Yields 25+ Year Prison Term

A Raleigh man received a lengthy prison sentence Tuesday morning in Wilkes Superior Court for his part in a 2010 home invasion and robbery spree in Ashe and Wilkes counties and is to serve a Tennessee term of 30-years concurrently with his North Carolina term in the same crime spree. DOT Detour Coordination in Ashe Bridge Projects

The N.C. Department of Transportation is preparing to replace a bridge on Roundabout Road over Cabbage Creek in Ashe County and will install an off-site detour during construction. Out-of-County Suspects Arrested in Avery

Vigil for Missouri Shooting Victim in Boone
