Mayview Madness 5K Fun Run
On the
morning of Saturday, November 7th, High Country Conservancy will
throw the 10th Annual Stick Boy Mayview Madness 5K & 1 Mile Fun
Run in Blowing Rock. Runners of all levels are welcome. Proceeds from the race
go to High Country Conservancy, a local non-profit land conservation group. To

People in the community may order boxes of food for $30.00 that will help feed a family of four for a week. Specialty boxes may also be ordered, ranging in price from 18 to 23 dollars. We are asking for lightweight, quick drying,

An information session about Alzheimer’s will be
presented by Nicole Rieger Thomas from the Alzheimer’s Association on Tuesday,

Nicole will be showing “The Memory Loss Tapes” from the recent HBO Alzheimer’s
Project. The seminar will be held at
the Watauga County Project on Aging and is open to everyone, including family

The 8th grade students at Valle Crucis Elementary School are selling 24" Christmas Wreaths to raise money for their 8th grade trip. The wreaths are $15 and an additional $5 for a red velvet bow. Utilities Department will be closing the road of Hwy 194, from US Hwy
421 S to New Market Center for the replacement of a sewer tap. This road will be closed from 8:00 am until
4:00 pm.

selected and a new public service announcement will ensue.

A meeting for military mothers will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the National Guard Amory at 2:00. Mothers of military sons or daughters serving in any branch of service who live in Watauga, Ashe, or Avery County are invited to attend and be involved in this exciting new group to support our military family members who serve our nation so valiantly and with honor. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the chartering of a High Country Chapter of the National Organization of Blue Star mothers who have sons or daughters serving in the military. The organization organizes activities to support both the families and those serving in the military. Those activities are determined by each group, and include mailing cards, letters, and packages to area service men and women as well as being a support group for mothers who have sons and/or daughters in the military. 14th at 7:00pm. Our Healing Service dates have changed from the 4th Saturday, to
the 2nd Saturday of each month. Many people have been healed in these meetings.
Some of the healing miracles include, necks, jaws, shoulders, backs, hips,
knees, ACL (2), feet, ankles, wrists. Recently a baby with a herniated
bellybutton was healed. The swollen, enlarged bellybutton shrunk down to normal
size after prayer. Come join us and we will believe God with you for your

As a process and as a goal, social justice means full and equal participation of all groups in a society that is mutually shaped to meet their needs. In this presentation, Vernon Wall helps audience members learn how their identities influence all they do and how this knowledge can help them become more aware and advocate for inclusion. Wall has written extensively on issues of inclusion on today’s college campuses. His award-winning programs and presentations have been seen by thousands of students, faculty, and staff on campuses across the country and have been described as being “a learning experience - with a touch of wildness.” |

The Movement’s message of non-violence and civil disobedience would inspire pivotal events like the lunch counter sit-in in Greensboro NC, the bus boycott in Montgomery AL, the integration of Central High School in Little Rock AR, the freedom rides throughout the South, the march to Montgomery, and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Nikki Giovanni is a world-renowned poet, writer, commentator, activist, and educator.
