Authorities are trying to determine whether a Watauga County man might have been a victim of the stormy weather or a traffic accident, that after an alert dispatcher matched information that led to the discovery of the man’s body early this morning. Flooding Consequences Continue

There are still consequences to the weekend deluge that spilled over into Monday morning.  The N.C. Department of Transportation has closed a section of N.C. 90 in Collettsville, north of Lenoir, to repair a slope next to the highway damaged due to the storm. Boone Men Charged in Avery Trailer Theft

The Avery County Sheriff’s Office and Boone Police recovered a trailer stolen from Avery April 22nd at a location off NC 105. Avery received a report about the theft of a utility trailer from a Hwy 181location in Pineola.  The victim of the theft had digital video of a suspect vehicle used in the theft. Full Story

 
Drug Sales Near Day Care Yields Arrest

Last Wednesday at 6:55 pm, Lenoir Narcotics Detectives arrested Gerrod Barnes aka “Hot Rod” for the listed drug violations.  After several weeks of investigation the following items were seized from Barnes.  Crack cocaine weighing 2.6 grams, $899 dollars in US currency, digital scales and other paraphernalia. ASU Softball Claims First SoCon Title

Appalachian State University clinched the program’s first regular season Southern Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon after defeating Georgia Southern 2-0 in game one of the three-game series.
