Pioneers Pull Off Daily Double

The Watuaga High boys' and girls' track teams won the Northwestern 3A-4A Conference championships Wednesday at Jack Groce Stadium. The Pioneers won their fifth consecutive NW3A/4A titles. The WHS girls won nine events and bested the field with 178 points. Hickory finished second with 153 points.

Bolick Dominates WHS

Hibriten High senior Drew Bolick was nearly untouchable Wednesday night. The right hander, who has signed with Western Carolina University, had a no-hitter for 5.1 innings before Colby Illich of the Pioneers broke it up with a solid single to center field in the sixth inning.

Pioneers Headed To Tarboro

The Watauga High baseball team will travel to Taboro, N.C. for the Tarboro Easter Classic next week. The tournament, which begins Tuesday with a homne run hitting contest on Tuesday, April 22, will feature a six-team field. The teams will be divided into two pools with a round-robin schedule. For the second time this year, Lenoir-Rhyne University's Ivan Vieitez has been named the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player Of The Week.
