Watauga High HOSA Students Win District

Watauga High School students Maggie Cook and Austin Wilcox, first place winners of a HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) regional competition in CPR and First Aid.  The competition included 200 students and 100 teams from NW NC.  The students are shown with Regina Alford, Full Story

 
Lifestore “Feeding Families For Christmas” Program

Many families live in poverty and are unable to celebrate Christmas around the kitchen table enjoying their favorite holiday foods.  And many families here in Watauga County are struggling to feed their children. We invite you to help us bring Christmas to these families by donating food items to help those in need.

Bluegrass & Barbecue to Aid Blowing Rock Man

Blowing Rock, NC resident, Robin Coffey, was in an accident on August 30th, 2012.  He fell approximately 25’ from a roof, sustaining a skull fracture, broken cheek bones, a broken rib, and shattered wrist.  He was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center, where he stayed until September 7. Boone Chamber "Community Showcase" 11/28

New members of the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce will be featured at an event on the evening of Wednesday, November 28th.  The Chamber and Community "Showcase" will be held in conjunction with the ASU-Duquesne basketball game for an evening fit for families and all interested in High Country community life. "Honor Card" Fund Raiser Starts Wednesday

William Mangum, North Carolina’s Artist, will visit the High Country on November 14th to kickoff of his signature philanthropic initiative – The Honor Card. WHS Playmakers in Play-Offs

The Watauga High School Pioneer Playmakers received nine awards and were selected to advance to the State High School Play Festival on the strength of their original production of the one- act play “schuld” last weekend at the high school.  The Pioneer Playmakers production is one of just 18 chosen Full Story

 
Navy Jazz Ensemble to Play at WHS

The “Commodores”, the United States Navy Band’s jazz ensemble from Washington, D.C. will present a free concert at the Watauga High School Auditorium on Tuesday, November 13 at 7:30 pm.  Sponsored by the Hayes School of Music and Watauga High School Band, this concert features Full Story

 
Snow Punkins

Alecia Aldridge submitted her orange snow punkins, "I made this snowman today, in the shape of a pumpkin, since tomorrow is Halloween." Aldridge said the people in the photo are Dutin Aldridge, and her son Parker Aldridge--and that no snowballs--nor pumpkins--were harmed in her art. Full Story
